Reliable for many years

I've been using Recurly for years now, mostly for their Subscription Management Platform and Dunning Management. This last time I updated our plan to include more advanced Subscription Analytics. It's consistently been a reliable service. Every order, or rather, every plan change or feature addition, has been smooth. No surprises, which is what I look for in a service like this. It performs just as well as it always has, handling all our recurring billing without a hitch. That consistency is why I keep coming back, it just works.

Good for subscription stuff

I used Recurly for their Subscription Management Platform. It was pretty easy to set up, way simpler than I thought it would be. My business needed something to handle all the recurring payments, and this worked out. No major headaches, which is always a plus. Everything just ran smoothly after I got it going.

Solid platform, minor issues

I tried Recurly's Churn Management and Customer Retention Tools. The positive side is that the tools themselves are quite powerful, providing good insights into why customers leave. It really helped us pinpoint some issues with our service. The reporting features for churn were particularly useful. On the flip side, their API integration, while functional, wasn't as straightforward as I hoped for specific custom reporting. It took more development time than I initially budgeted to get the exact data flow we needed. Customer service was responsive when I had questions about the API, but it wasn't an instant fix. Overall, it's a strong platform for what it does, but be ready for some technical work if you have unique integration needs.

Detailed feedback on Recurly

I decided to go with Recurly for their Recurring Billing Engine and Payment Gateway Integration. The ordering process itself was straightforward on their site; I booked a demo first and then got set up with their team. Delivery, as in getting access to the platform, was instant after signing the agreement. The implementation support team was helpful, though it took a few back-and-forths to get everything perfectly aligned with our existing systems. Quality of the platform is solid; it handles transactions without issues. I specifically needed multi-currency support, and that feature worked as advertised. Usability is good, most features are intuitive, but some advanced settings require a bit of digging in their documentation. Overall, it's a robust solution for billing needs.

I saw something about a 30-day trial. Is that like, fully featured, or super limited?

W Wendy Kim 2 months ago
It's pretty much the full deal, from what I remember. You can test out most of the stuff you'd actually use.

Does Recurly work with Stripe, or do I have to use their own thing for processing payments?

A Alex 2 months ago
Totally works with Stripe! That's what we use, no issues at all. They integrate with a bunch of others too, I think.

Yep, can confirm. We use Stripe through Recurly. It's pretty seamless.

What happens if a customer's card fails? Does Recurly keep trying or do you have to manually chase them?

T Tom Reyes 2 months ago
Recurly has this whole 'dunning' thing. It automatically tries the card again and sends out emails. You can customize how many times and when.

It's pretty solid. Saved us a lot of headaches with failed payments, way better than what we were doing manually before.

Anyone know if Recurly is good for a small startup? Or is it more for bigger companies with tons of subscribers?

E Elena Z. 1 month ago
I think they have plans for different sizes. We started pretty small and it worked out fine. You can probably just get a demo to see if it fits.

Honestly, might be a bit overkill if you're *super* tiny, but if you're planning to scale quickly, it's worth it. They do have specific startup pricing if you ask.

Are there any public discount codes floating around for annual subscriptions?

G Gwen 1 month ago
Not really, never seen one. You usually have to talk to their sales team directly for any annual commitment discounts.

E Emma 1 month ago
Yeah, they don't do public codes like some other SaaS. It's more of a negotiate-your-deal kind of place, especially for annual.

Hey guys, thinking about Recurly for our new subscription service. How long does it actually take to get everything set up and running?

J Josh L. 1 month ago
Depends on how complex your setup is. For a basic one, maybe a few weeks? Our dev team got it mostly integrated within a month for sure.

B Ben Okafor 1 month ago
Yeah, if you're doing a lot of custom stuff or have a weird payment flow, it can drag out a bit. But they have decent documentation, that helps.

How does Recurly stack up against Chargebee? They seem pretty similar on the surface.

M Megan 2 months ago
We looked at both. Recurly felt a bit more robust for high-volume stuff and their analytics were better for us. Chargebee was good, but Recurly had an edge.

S Sam S. 2 months ago
Chargebee might be slightly cheaper for some tiers, but Recurly's dunning features and reporting felt more mature to me. Worth getting demos from both.
